What you recommend Casein protein for an ectomorphic bodybuilder?
we all know whey is the best for post workout, ect.
but casein is a slow releasing protein, should I take this instead of Whey?
Also GNC is WAY to expensive… is there anyplace cheaper?
Not “instead” of whey. The point of casein is to provide you with slow-digesting protein. As long as you are getting enough protein in each meal you will remain in an anabolic (muscle-building) state. This is because your body stays in a positive nitrogen balance when it is supplied enough protein at each meal, which should typically be spaced around 3 hours apart.
I’m not going into detail about how nitrogen balance works in your body, but I’ll give you a site if you’re interested. The point of casein is to keep you in that positive nitrogen balance (anabolic state) when your body can not be supplied with protein for a sustained period of time.
Casein will keep you in a positive nitrogen balance for up to 7 hours if taken alone, as opposed to whey, which only keeps you in a positive nitrogen balance for 2-3 hours. This is why people take casein at nighttime, because you do not consume any protein for a good 7-8 hours.
To slow down casein digestion further you can consume fats with it, such as peanut butter. Get the healthy type, either that which you can make yourself at a health food store, like Whole Foods, or the organic, all natural type.
Don’t give up whey. If there’s any one important supplement a bodybuilder should take, it’s whey, which is optimal for post-workout, and can optionally be taken at other times. Real foods can be taken at other times though, whey is really optimal for post-workout, one time where supplements actually beat real food.
And about where to get it, I know Walmart has cheaper whey protein, not sure if it has casein protein though. You don’t have to buy a casein supplement though. Neither of them have healthy sources of whey or casein tbh, you can just take a look at the ingredients. But if you were to get the proper, healthier kind it would be even more expensive, so I guess that’s not an option.
A cheaper option would be buying cottage cheese or milk, which both contain casein protein. 1 cup of cottage cheese or 4 cups of milk should be enough. Cottage cheese is the better food source of casein, but if you get milk I’d recommend whole milk that is UNhomogenized, if possible.

listen to yamster he’s absolutly right not gonna bother with a whole long paragraph well cuz he said it all..casien is good before bed and whey after workout
good places tobuy cheaper supplements
wal mart and target get whey there if u dont mind bodyfortress or 5 star whey protein they arent bad
also for casien id say get it online otherwise it’s more expensive in the stores
but casien protein is chalky and i dont like it so i eat 1c cottage cheese w/ 1-1.5oz almonds 15mins before bed..will do the same thing and a 60oz container of cottage cheese is like 6bucks where i live enough for a weeks worth before bed
